Salt Lake County Democrat News and Info... Print E-mail
Written by Scoop
Thursday, 25 March 2010 08:42

I finally found the Salt Lake County Democrats Precinct information, most of the residents in Daybreak and the surrounding areas are part of Legislative District #50, and the Chair person for the district is:

Frank Cordova

This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

.

I am sorry I didn’t have this information until today; there was some confusion on my part as I was looking on the Utah Democrat Website and not the Salt Lake County Democrat website. So eventhough I am a Republican, I always try to be “fair and balanced” ;-) so I am encouraging all Democrats to reach out to their legislative district chair person and get involved.

.

More importantly, we all are different and may have different opinions and ideas, which makes us great, YET first and foremost we are ALL Americans; and never forget hundreds of thousands of Americans before us gave their lives for our freedom and liberty. And one of our most cherished freedoms is our right to VOTE, so please whether you are Republican or Democrat get involved and at the minimum get out and VOTE, it is more than a freedom or a right, it is your duty as an American.

.

I also want to thank Christian Burridge (a Daybreak Resident) who is running for the Salt Lake County Council at large seat this year for getting involved an being part of the political process, he is a good American. If anyone wants to find out information on Christian or wants to help support Christian please visit his website at: http://www.christianburridge.com/christianburridge/Welcome.html

JSD Numbers and GOP Representation News… Print E-mail
Written by Scoop
Wednesday, 24 March 2010 09:13

As I was talking to some friends at the GOP Caucus last night and was floored when I realized that Barry Newbold (The JSD Superintendant) has a higher salary ($213k per year) than any elected Congress person, Senator, or Governor in the ENTIRE United States, the only elected officials at that level or higher who make more are the President of the United States ($400k per year) and the Vice President of the United States ($221k per year). In my opinion that is beyond ridiculous, why and how could this happen? The Superintendant in the Canyons School District makes $175k per year, if Newbold took a pay cut to $175k per year, to be inline with that or to be "competitive", that would save $38k per year which could pay for another teacher and perhaps a part time aid, the little things do add up...

.

This is unacceptable, especially when the children of the Jordan School District are going to be having to adjust to the changes of the current budgets issues by losing programs and teacher’s aides, etc.  Do you feel okay with this? Not me, and this is just the tip of the iceberg, more info to come of the fiscal abuse at play in the JSD leadership.

.

Rumor has it that Superintendant Newbold gets a $250 per month clothing budget, wow (NOT sure this is a fact or not...I am getting the expanded budget for the JSD to see if this is in fact accurate or false, there are many things that could be hidden in the main budget which is vauge in many areas).

.

Moving on, as most of you know the GOP and Democratic Parties had their Caucus meeting last night and the turnout was huge. My precinct 3524 (link to precinct map) has some new GOP leadership and Delegates (see below):

Some Teacher Jobs Saved Print E-mail
Written by www.oursouthvalley.com
Friday, 12 March 2010 10:23

Rep. Jim Bird of West Jordan announced that Senate Bill 295, the bill that would allow the Jordan School District to use building money to pay teachers, has passed.

.

As many of you know, the Jordan School District has a $30 million deficit and had announced they would be forced to lay off 500 employees including 250 teachers.  The passage of this bill will allow the district to use around $10 million dollars for teacher salaries, potentially saving some jobs.  The governor does have to sign the bill, but he is expected to do so.

.

The school board will have the ultimate say in exactly how those funds will be spent, but Superintendent Newbold told the Trib he thinks retaining teachers will be a priority.

Written by Scoop
Wednesday, 10 March 2010 09:21

Here are the new rules and changes coming to Oquirrh Lake this year, so before you pack up the family and decide to swing down to the lake these are the NEW rules you need to know:

There is NO swimming and NO wading allowed this year (last year wading was allowed). Swimming will only be permitted as part of a Kennecott land approved event/activities.

There will no longer be parking allowed on the East Side of Oquirrh lake Rd, and a new stop sign will be put in at Oquirrh Lake Rd/ Dorena Ln.

All pets must be on leashes and are not allowed in the lake.

Fishing is still allowed in designated fishing zones (until the lake is fished out, the UDWR stills says there are no future plans to stock Oquirrh lake).

Lifejackets must be worn by all boaters at all times and restrict the use of motorized boats to authorized lake patrol/rescue activities.

NO portable BBQ’s, tents, or awnings will be allowed.

FREE Tax Preparation for Public Employees Print E-mail
Written by oursouthvalley.com
Tuesday, 02 March 2010 16:05

We all know how difficult this month has been for teachers in Utah, particularly for the educators in the Jordan School District, as they prepare for the possibility of massive job layoffs by the end of June.

.

To top it all off, it’s tax season, which probably, for some of them, simple adds insult to injury. There is some good news out there when it comes to doing your taxes anyway.

.

Liberty Tax Service in Riverton, will do your returns for free this week if you are a teacher and a first time customer of Liberty. No catch, no hidden fees. Darren Openshaw is one of the owners of Liberty on 1868 West 12600 South, he says the hope is they can get you in for free this year, and hopefully you’ll come back next year, only with your checkbook open and eager to pay. But he says most importantly, “It is our way of establishing ourselves in the community, as well as giving something back to the community at the same time.”

(thanks goes out to the www.oursouthvalley.com team for the article)
