What? A fancy dinner and dance in Daybreak?

.

Yep, that's right. Barring any changes, on November 6th we will be having an adult's only evening of elegance in one of the empty spaces at Soda Row. We will have a dinner, some entertainment, and a dance, along with a silent auction from local businesses that will benefit the Daybreak to DebreZeit project (*read more below if you don't know what that is).

.

So....Raquel Lubbers, who is the Chair (volunteer), needs YOUR help!  She is having an impossible time of getting committee volunteers to help make events happen. She would love anyone that could help with ANYTHING! Ideas, suggestions, caterers, entertainers, bands, djs, sponsors, silent auction items/services, theme ideas, decorations, etc, etc. She was a concert promoter back in the day, but planning ska and punk shows is quite a different event than a fancy dance for couples (or friends that want a GNO!). She wants to make this THE EVENT that no one wants to miss, but she need’s input to make it happen.

.

So who is ready to plan the party of the year with her?!
.

*Daybreak to DebreZeit is a project that she, as the LiveDAYBREAK Giving Back Chair, have put into motion. The goal is to give a hand up, not a handout, to our "sister community" in DebreZeit, Ethiopia. Why Ethiopia and not here? Well, we are also trying to do plenty of projects around our immediate surroundings, but wanted to be able to do something GRAND as a community. All it takes is an average of $7 per Daybreak household and we can build a school in Ethiopia that will allow 500 children to go to school, along with allowing adults to have business training in the evenings. This will dramatically change the future for these people and all it takes from us is for each Daybreak household to find $7 to spare.

.

Together, all of our contributions will allow our community to do something GREAT for another community in need. How cool is that?! If we are successful, we would like to continue the partnership (if each household gives $4 more dollars, we can build a well, for example). It's an amazing opportunity to teach our children how to be grateful for the luxuries we often take for granted like education and clean water. We can empower them as they see the difference we can make as a community. As our project progresses, we will be able to see photos of the changes and even visit the community for those daring enough to make the trip! How exciting! If you are interested in getting involved in the Giving Back Pillar for local or international projects, please let Raquel know :)

.

If you are interested in making a donation of any amount between $1 and a $1,000,000 :), you can send it directly to the DCC or contact Raquel and she come pick it up. As a non-profit, these are tax deductible.
