Here you go...direct from the HOA via Tina:

Hi Russ, it has been decided by the Homeowner Association as well as Kennecott Land not to implement a message board system on our new website. The reason we feel it important to do this is we are encouraging residents to contact the HOA and or Kennecott Land directly for an answer to their question. This allows the management team and the developer to provide residents with the most currently information.

If we have not community forum...then why would we want to pay for the site. The forum for better or worse helped us connect as a community. It is now just another marketing tool for the HOA...."look how our residents play nice". I love living here but this is not Pleasantville.

Unbelievable. Apparently they heard too much negative feedback in the forums, so they decided to shut them down. I am losing more and more respect for CCMC and Kennecott every day.

Only whitewashed, HOA approved messages on Daybreakliving! I wonder if we start an email and phone campaign, how long it would take for them to relent and add the discussion option! I honestly can't see why I would go to the site anymore, everything that is on the site has already been emailed to me, several times, so why even log on! What a waste of time, effort and our money!

Few things, first off... it does take time for the DNS to propogate to all the other ISP's. Which is why some weren't able to access it right at 6pm on Friday night. Not the HOA's fault, just an internet thing. It used to take up to 48 hours to get a new website to show up to the entire world. Now days it's just a few hours.

All that said, here are some issues with the current HOA website that I can see:

Contacts - Account Information: I'm guessing this could be a really handy feature where there is recorded all your violations against your property, requests. It doesn't work though, gives you a server error.

Stay Connected - Resident Directory: Ummm... there are some people who are alphabetically listed by their last name then some by their first name (namely all the employees it seems). Which makes the whole thing very confusing for someone.

Classifieds: I'm really disappointed to not see an ability to upload images here. These are invaluable if you are selling something and helps potential buyers and sellers.

Discussion/Forums: Again, really disappointed, as most others are here too it seems. I was able to stay more up-to-date about the community, community events, personal events people were hosting, concerns, questions, events in South Jordan, the District, buildings, cautions/warnings and more. To see this taken away is really disheartening. I can't see a reason to even go to the website and it just encourages flooding of my inbox with news now that I'm likely to miss.

Your Community - Advertising & Event Sponsorship Page: "Daybreaks community intranet features ads with custom graphics, logos and pictures. Your advertisement will be viewed by every resident who logs in. Ads are categorized by business type, narrowing your target audience. This site has 1,450 registered users and typically receives 7,400 hits each day." 7400 hits? I'm not sure how many others know what a hit is, but each item that is on a page (a picture etc.) is a hit. Just visiting the daybreakliving.net homepage, I can count at least 10 hits that are recorded just for showing up on that page. So this is really misleading to a resident or advertiser by saying "7400 hits" a day which would lead someone to believe that the page is being viewed 7400 times or that they have 7400 people viewing that webpage a day. In all honesty, the page is probably being viewed by just a few dozen to possibly, though doubtful, a couple hundred.

Enough rambling though, just wanted to express my thoughts and frustrations over the new HOA website.

I finally got in to the site. I would generally agree with the assessment by me2wired. I couldn't figure out how to add a profile picture, though. Not that it matters. One of the biggest features i enjoyed on the previous site was the ability for residents to build and maintain a club page. Now the clubs are just listed on a page and that's it. I liked the more interactive approach. I was able to email the members, post pictures and updates, and even had a little mini-message board just for the club.

I never complained about the old site. The speed of page loading was about the only thing that was troublesome. I loved the format and the interaction. This new one really stinks.
