I have lived in Daybreak almost 5 years and will generally say I love living here. I appear to have some lovely neighbors and have always believed that most were drawn to Daybreak for similar reasons.
Today I realize there are liars and cowards among us and I am at best disappointed. We learned today that a complaint was filed on a member of our family, our beloved dog. Brandy has been with us for 11 years, she has watched over and protected and played lovingly with all 6 of my grandchildren since they were infants. She is a very people friendly dog, and not particularly fond of other dogs. She has NEVER caused harm to anyone, and it is very common for children walking to and from school each day to enter my yard and pet and play with her. She loves lying in the sun watching the children, she is gentle and loving and would never hurt a child.
So imagine our shock when we learned that one of our neighbors made a choice to lie in order to remove this sweet animal from her home.
It is shocking to me that any adult would willingly choose to first call in a false complaint rather than approach their NEIGHBOR with a concern. Yes, Brandy is a Bull Mix and there is Pit in that mix. IGNORANCE and only IGNORANCE causes fear about any breed of dog. ANY breed of dog can be vicious if treated poorly. And any breed of dog can be wonderful if treated well.
Our family pet, will now be required to leave our home- and since the IGNORANT neighbor had no real complaint against Brandy other than her breed- a lie was reported.
Brandy is NEVER out of the house during the day unless there is someone home- she is always on a lease when walking or a chain in the back yard- I have watched the children in the neighborhood come into my yard to pet her and play with her on their way to and from school.
But this lying neighbor, who is too cowardly to come to my home and express a concern reported fear for the children walking to school. I understand the rules, I understand if there is truly a danger, and would never want to endanger anyone with a pet. What I do not understand is the ignorance and cowardly behavior of a NEIGHBOR who is willing to LIE about an animal who has done no harm. SHAME ON YOU! I am much more concerned about the character of the person who made this complaint than I could ever be about any animal in the neighborhood- YOU DEAR NEIGHBOR are the real Danger!!

I was shocked and saddened by your post. I own dogs who can appear scary on first sight, but have never harmed another person or pet. Shame on this person who falsely reported you.

Above all, I am most shocked that the pet was asked to leave the property. How can this be without an investigation, and why specifically was the pet asked to be removed? We are fairly knew to Daybreak and I am not certain of the rules. Please know you have my deepest sympathies. Those who respond out of fear and misunderstanding are truly ignorant. I hope other pet owners and pet friendly folks can continue to offer you support in this difficult time.

Wait just a minute... let me get this straight:

You own a "Bull Mix and there is Pit in that mix." So, you own a Pitbull mix, correct? Let us not mix words. This dog is illegal to own in the city of South Jordan.

In 1997, the City Council determined the Pit Bull breed to be dangerous after hearing testimonies regarding attacks by the Pit Bull. They declared it to be unlawful to own or harbor a Pit Bull or any bread that strongly resembled the physical traits of an American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, or Staffordshire Bull Terrier within the city limits of South Jordan City.

The City Council found that the breed possess extremely powerful jaws, high pain tolerance, extreme aggressiveness towards other animals, they have a natural tendency to refuse to terminate an attack once it has begun. The City Council found that these traits result in significantly greater damage to persons and property than attacks by other canine breeds.

Where do I even start... you chain your dog up outside which is a known cause or creator of Psychosis in any animal let alone this breed. This activity is even illegal in several areas including Salt Lake County. Before you reply that I don't know what I am talking about I was an animal behaviorist specialist and trained dogs full time (for a living) for over 10 years.

You ma'am are flat wrong. You broke the law by owning an illegal animal and you were caught. You then engaged in horrible behavior by chaining your animal and created an enormous risk by allowing children to approach a chained animal on your property and her territory.

As for your neighbor, any and every citizen is responsible to report criminal activity. You were engaged in an illegal act by owning an animal that is restricted by city ordinance. The person reporting the crime is not required to engage the criminal in fact it is discouraged by the police. Take responsibility for your actions and place the blame where it belongs... at the feet of that person (YOU) that broke the law, not the person who reported it.

So is this a Daybreak HOA matter or a South Jordan Police matter? Was the HOA involved?

Liz, after I saw the police at your home, I called and talked with your daughter-in-law. I am so sorry about Brandy. She has never been a threat to my children at anytime, or me when I have come to visit. Although we don't own any pets, I do understand that they become a part of the family. Please let Eric and Cami know how sorry we are for their loss. And you also.

Sarah- A Boxer Mix yes that is correct, for 11 years- I am well aware there are certain TRAITS assigned to CERTAIN Breeds of dogs- We have been known to do that in this Country to PEOPLE as well. In Fact we have been known to do that in this STATE! That does not make it right! You choose to twist my words to suggest that our HOUSE PET was somehow mistreated and unloved. ANY ANIMAL can be VICIOUS if mistreated and the reverse is also true. But then any human can be VICIOUS as well for the same reason. Who did not love you enough to make you SO VICIOUS. You are correct laws are laws and they should be followed- AND WE HAVE NEVER HAD A LAW on the BOOKS in this Country that was based on IGNORANCE AND FEAR now have we!!!
