Are we all forgetting that Kennecott swears that roundabouts, one way streets, and narrow streets make people drive safer? hmmm really? This happened again last night. My neighbor was coming home going westbound on 11400, passed the first roundabout, and about 100 feet up, a car leaves from in front of rio tinto heading towards oncoming traffic. Lets give him some slack, maybe it was his first day? Maybe he cant read? who knows!

I'm sure that roundabouts are safer and quicker than traditional intersections but only if drivers are willing to pay attention to their surroundings. It seems that visitors and others who come to Daybreak may be either too blinded by the unique architecture and colors or preoccupied with other items (ipod, etc) to care about seeing, understanding and following traffic signs. Really, it shouldn't be too hard.

Roundabouts are in fact safer... the accidents that do occur are much more minor than that of a traditional intersection (i.e. fender bender rather than head-on collisions). However, once again, road designs aren't what makes driving dangerous, it is the other drivers.
As for the narrow streets... it is a comfort factor. The less room people feel they have to drive, statistically they drive that much slower. It has been proven to be effective, same with one way roads. You can only do so much to help prevent accidents, nothing engineers do will ever prevent stupidity.

I agree that driving habits are abyssmal, here. Yesterday, I was going down Oakmond near the school approaching Firmont. I see a van coming east on Firmont as I am beginning a stop and it slows down, doesn't stop but proceeds to roll on through the intersection, accelerating. A dark KIA van to be exact.
Could it have been a worse spot to run a stop sign? They don't call it a "California roll" for nothing, do they?
STOP means STOP!!! (cease all forward motion)

To some extent I do agree that roundabouts are safer.... if people follow the rules within the roundabout. I lived in Provo for 4 years, and there were a few roundabouts by my apartment. Literally a few times a week, there were accidents at the roundabout. People going to fast while its snowing or the roads are icy, merges not being done properly etc etc. The point was/is... wrong way drivers. I am hoping people who live here know by now that daybreak parkway is a one way road on each side. It just makes me laugh and irritates me when I see drivers going down the wrong side of the road... it especially irritates me when the drivers of said cars belong to Kennecot land/Rio Tinto.
