Has anyone heard what is going to be happening with Qwest? I've tried contacting the HOA but they just tell me that they are aware that the residents are not happy with the service and that the contract is up for renegotiation soon. I would rather that they just cancelled the contract and we could save money by getting the same Qwest service that they offer on thier website.

They (the HOA) sent out a poll several months ago. The verdict came back that the residents who did answer it were happy, so they opted to keep qwest. I think the HOA asked some decieving questions and didn't mention anything as to why they were giving the poll until after the fact. I think if more residents were aware of what was going on, they would've answered differently. That being said, don't count on qwest going anywhere soon. I do agree about cancelling it though, especially since those paying their HOA fees are paying for a good percentage of the neighborhood who isn't to recieve the same service we do.

I don't know, I am waiting to hear the final word/ cost as well.

I did take the survey and didn't felt it was misleading, and understood why it was being sent out.

The final verdict was that the HOA was not going to switch as a majority of the residents were happy. Mostly it was only residents on daybreak daily that knew why the survey went out. And as for being misleading... a majority of the residents have no clue that the homes sitting empty are still receiving service on our dime. That was a major factor to it going out, and had the residents that have been paying their HOA fees and knew that facts were the ones to ultimately decide I'm sure we'd currently have more options. The survey assumed you knew all the facts, a poor assumption for something that heavily impacted the community. Personally, I don't see the HOA EVER eliminating Qwest or the current scenerio we're in. That would involve work on their part. Something we all know they don't like to do much of!

Yup. Isn't it wonderful knowing that part of your Qwest assessment goes toward making sure that all of those vacant houses have uninterrupted internet service?

What I want to find out is the financial arrangement between Kennecott and Qwest. I've negotiated enough corporate contracts to know that Kennecott is not keeping Qwest because it's genuinely concerned that Daybreak residents need help choosing an ISP. It's because they are getting something out of the deal. Initially, they claimed that it was to provide an incentive for Qwest to run the fiber optic lines to the community. However, any obligation for doing that would have expired with the initial contract. Kennecott chose to renew/extend the contract last year. There's no cost or service benefit to residents. In fact, we are subsidizing service for empty houses and, thus, padding Qwest's bottom line. I can't help but think that Kennecott is also padding theirs as well.
