Here are the new rules and changes coming to Oquirrh Lake this year, so before you pack up the family and decide to swing down to the lake these are the NEW rules you need to know:

.

There is NO swimming and NO wading allowed this year (last year wading was allowed). Swimming will only be permitted as part of a Kennecott land approved event/activities.

There will no longer be parking allowed on the East Side of Oquirrh lake Rd, and a new stop sign will be put in at Oquirrh Lake Rd/ Dorena Ln.

All pets must be on leashes and are not allowed in the lake.

Fishing is still allowed in designated fishing zones (until the lake is fished out, the UDWR stills says there are no future plans to stock Oquirrh lake).

Lifejackets must be worn by all boaters at all times and restrict the use of motorized boats to authorized lake patrol/rescue activities.

NO portable BBQ’s, tents, or awnings will be allowed.

NO glass containers are allowed.

NO pets are allowed in the Eastlake Beach area (pets can only be taken to the North Shore Beach).

.

And there also will be a few new and similar additions as listed below…

There will be portables at Eastlake and North Shore Beaches again, Kennecott Land said there will be permanent bathrooms built later this year for the 2011 season (they said the same thing last year, they actually say a lot of things, not all come true)

Also, this year after years of residents complaints Kennecott Land launch a Lake Signage Program, which primary objectives include informing and educating lake visitors regarding the types of activities permitted, where these activities can occur, the associated rules of conduct, hours of operation, etc.

"There will no longer be parking allowed on the East Side of Oquirrh lake Rd". A clarification needs to be made. East side of the road parking will ONLY be restricted in the area of the East Lake Beach. Liability is the over-riding factor in denying lake access in any form. However, despite the fact that the park/playground had a beach included, wading and swimming was never OFFICIALLY allowed. KLC wants to remove the attraction for outsiders which resulted in the park being overcrowded/unusable at certain times. This coming year's experiment will be a basis for possible wading next year.

How to enforce?

With the dropping of the last of the security patrols, how does KLC think they will be able to enforce any of the new rules? With this "lake host" person? How is that going to work?

No Wading?

This makes me sad there is no wading this year. I know it got a little out of hand last year, but what good is a lake if you can't use it. I think they could have set up different rules (like residents only) and everyone would have been much happier.

Don't forget that they want to restrict lake usage to daybreak residents only by requiring a boating permit. Still wondering how this summer is going to go over... I don't see the new rules meaning much of anything in the long run.
