Kennecott Land is planning to put a Maverick Gas Station directly next to Early Light Academy Print E-mail
Written by Scoop
Wednesday, 18 November 2009 15:30

I found out about this almost two months ago and have been contacted by quite a few parents whose children attend Early Light Academy. While I understand and appreciate the need to build the tax base for South Jordan, I also understand and agree with the concern of the parents whose children attend Early Light Academy who are concerned that Kennecott Land is planning to put a Maverick Gas Station right next to the school and the possible dangers that come with doing that. The main concern I hear, and there are many, is that the possibility of transients or drifters or any other type’s people that could be customers of the Maverick Gas Station being in such a close vicinity of the children attending the school. .

.

I will follow up on this once I get more information, if you would like to comment feel free to do so…

FY 2010 Daybreak Homeowners budget Print E-mail
Written by Scoop
Tuesday, 17 November 2009 09:33

For those of you that were unable to make the Daybreak Association Budget Workshop and are interested, attached are the Budget and a few of the questions brought to the attention to the BOD at the Budget meeting (many of the questions that were brought before the BOD are not included on this document) that are currently being reviewed and discussed. As everyone knows Rio Tinto (Kennecott Land) "claims" to have a strong community standard that involves transparency and equality and the management team at Kennecott land also "claims" to have an open door policy and encourages interaction with the residents of the community.

PLEASE note the next BOD meeting is December 1st @ 6pm in the Daybreak Community Center, save your questions on the budget or just questions in general for the BOD meeting. AND yes your HOA fee's are going to be raised and YES the HOA team is getting raises next year, which in my opinion is a big mistake and sends the message that the BOD does not base any of their decisions on what is in the best interest of the Daybreak community or the residents of the Daybreak community.

.    Since a large number of Daybreak residents were unable to attend the 2010 Budget meeting please feel free to contact the Kennecott Land Management team with any questions in regards to the draft budget, their contact information is below.

Go to SoDa RoW this Halloween Weekend and enjoy a hot espresso or a nice hot chocolate or if you are in the mood for something cold and sweet you could grab some gelato or sorbet, (there are over 36 flavors to choose from). Or if you are really hungry you can get some pesto pizza, panini, or some other Italian treats, I am sure I will be there soon and that San Gelato Café might become one of my local favorites very soon…

S.A.F.E. : Sidewalks from Sunstone to Daybreak Print E-mail
Written by Elly

Here in Daybreak, we love our community: we love our fantastic green spaces, our excellent schools, and our wonderful friends and neighbors. Just to the west of us, there are some neighbors whose children go to Daybreak schools, who have friends among Daybreak residents, who enjoy the beauty of Daybreak trails and parks, but who must trudge through mud and weeds on a busy road to do so. The residents of Sunstone are concerned that someone is going to be hurt making their way to or from Daybreak.

.

narrow roadside                Sunstone is a small neighborhood of about 1200 people about a half mile from Daybreak down 11800 South. If you’ve been out that way, you know how fast the cars speed down 11800 South, much faster than the posted speed limit. It’s a narrow two-lane road with very narrow shoulders—sometimes as little as 3 feet stretch between a pedestrian and speeding car. I wouldn’t want to walk along that road, nor especially send my kids down it. While children from Sunstone are currently bused to Daybreak Elementary, there are children who attend the new Early Light Academy that are walking along that 11800 South to school. And depending on how the boundaries are decided, there may be teens from Daybreak walking to the new high school down that stretch of road.

Daybreak Children's Academy coming spring 2010 Print E-mail
Written by Scoop
Tuesday, 13 October 2009 12:34

Finally, Daybreak will have its very own child care center, and like pretty much everything else in Daybreak—it will have its own special twist. Daybreak Children's Academy (DCA) will be a place where the whole family can get involved in art and music. The core program is a “daycare alternative” for working parents who need child care, but who don’t want to send their child to a “babysitting” type center. At DCA children as young as 6 months to 3 years will receive age-appropriate music prep courses designed to prepare them for Suzuki violin instruction and piano lessons by the time they turn four at the center. Toddlers on up will also be receiving professional art instruction, art history lessons, and language instruction (with the option of enrolling your child in a Spanish immersion class, where a native speaking instructor will speak only Spanish with the students for half of each day). All of this is included in the standard tuition and is built-in to their daily curriculum.

Crossing Guards FINALLY coming to local South Jordan Elementary Schools! Print E-mail
Written by Scoop
Thursday, 01 October 2009 09:14

As some of you have read in the first S.A.F.E. program articles (found on the 2nd or 3rd news page)  three of the local elementary schools have been in need and have been asking the City of South Jordan for crossing guards and have been consistently denied due to funding issues. Well I have read the City budget since I am a candidate for the South Jordan City Council this year and there is plenty of room to find funding for budget for the crossing guards and I expressed this with the current South Jordan City Manager, whom I suspect is more concerned with infrastructure growth and building the tax base than he is of the safety of the children of South Jordan (yes I told him that directly).  Now I do think that the growth of infrastructure and building the tax base of South Jordan are extremely important to the future of South Jordan, however I believe that safety for all of the residents of the City of South Jordan (not just the children) is the more important…

.

So since the S.A.F.E. program was published the City of South Jordan has scrambled and found the funding to get the needed crossing guards for Daybreak Elementary, Early Light Academy, & Eastlake Academy, so now all of the schools will have 2 crossing guards total to ensure the safety of the children of South Jordan are safe going to and leaving school every day. I just spoke to the Chief of Police of South Jordan this morning and the crossing guards should be in place in about 4 weeks!

.

If you’re current elected officials were doing their job this should have never been an issue!!!

.
