I think we also need to educate more Daybreak residents about the lake. Last night, we took our 11 yr. old Scouts around Eastlake & NorthShore beaches picking up trash and all of the boys thought it was okay to swim in the lake! I corrected them and told them that the signs even say no swimming and then I gave them a quick lesson on how just because everyone else is doing something it doesn't make it okay (and having to give that lesson made me feel old - that something my parents always said!)

Thanks!!! Lessons well worth passing on.

I think the only reason they say "No Swimming" is to absolve themselves of any responsibility if someone drowns. Otherwise they don't seem to care.

Sugarhouse, Liberty, and Pioneer are city parks. The police department and City budget and plan to address issues that arise on city property.

Our lake is private property. SoJo police can enter the property and take care of issues if they see something occur or a resident calls. Since the city doesn't own the lake, the level of police presence isn't budgeted for.

If Daybreak wants a police presence, we will have to hire an off duty officer.

The lake is not owned by Daybreak Homeowners therefore it is not "our lake". It is owned by Kennecott Land and shoud be managed by Kennecott Land not us homeowners and our Association.

Whether the lake is a public or private... There is no reason we should have to pay extra to "Hire" an off duty officer to have South Jordan Police do their job.

Kennecott land needs to step in and manage their lake.

I couldn't agree more, grandmabarb, it's the right thing for them to do. Normally our HOA is not responsible for an amenity until it is turned over by Kennecott and accepted by our HOA management. The lake isn't officaly finished and even if it were, the cost of insurance and upkeep would bankrupt our little HOA. If we were to follow the rules, the HOA should not be responsible for the cost of security.

However, part of the responsibility of security is to monitor the skate park(FYI another hot topic of discussion at the meeting) which belongs to the HOA. So we would have to share in that expense accordingly.

when I said this "Oquirrh Lake is Daybreak property" I mean Kennecott Land property, not Daybreak Homeowners property (sorry if it was confusing)...an as we see these issues arise, I totally understand why the City of South Jordan told Kennecott Land they had no interest in taking over the lake...

If they want outsiders to experience the lake, at least make them register for a visitor pass. Then people could be asked for HOA or visitor passes.
